VANITY

We all strive to live comfortably with all we desire within our grasp. We want to be able to afford some basic things/luxury as we please without having to lend money, yet we call those who openly tell us about their desire for luxury "vain". What makes us different from them? Is it because they are brave enough to say their dreams openly? Or is it because they prioritize getting luxuries over their career and happiness? Or is it because they go extreme in their actions to get it?

Truthfully, vanity takes you nowhere and can't last forever because with each day that pass, the luxury you seek becomes outdated and you will need to focus on another luxury item you will need.
Engaging in social vices like robbery just to gain luxury can be said to be extreme because, whatever gotten from it can't be valued as much as those who get it from hard work and perseverance. Gaining luxuries by sabotages, blackmail won't give you that maximum satisfaction of acquiring a tool of comfort.
Ironically, we need this vanity items ranging from cars, houses, designer clothes, traveling,in our lives because it is part of the things that contribute to our happiness. When we acquire these items of comfort through hard work or as a gift, we feel this sense of pride that spurs us on to achieve more. We are motivated to work harder to acquire more.
Balancing our desire for luxury is just the problem many people have. We forget the skill of prioritising our needs and this brings us to then question that; when does desire for luxury and comfort become vanity? We need to be able to effectively satisfy our basic needs of food, water, shelter and security(financial, social, physical) before we can fit in luxury into our "list of needs".
Going into debt just to live an expensive life will only bring unhappiness and embarrassment to us on the long run. We should not rope ourselves into debt just to acquire an item that may not play a major role in achieving our dreams and making our lives better. What do we gain in acquiring a designer item when we do not need it yet and ignoring our major needs and priorities.
Having a financial security of personal savings and savings in the bank should be a habit we should learn, and out of this financial security, we can buy ourselves luxury items periodically to stay happy.
Being alive is a luxury on its own, so we should not allow our lives to go extinct because of our nonchalant attitude in maintaining it with health promoting practices and being the best you can be.
You can acquire luxurious things if your earnings permits it without going into unlawful and human demeaning acts. Once in a while, we need to " spoil ourselves " a little to go over our accomplishments and plan new strategies in achieving our goals in life.
We should not hide behind the mirage of trying to focus on our goals and not acquire good things for ourselves and people around us. When you can afford it , you can help in contributing to the financial, educational, and health needs of  people around you and this may just be the luxury they need to encourage them  to strive for success and contributing positively to the economy growth and development.
Whenever you aim to buy an item of comfort, quickly analyses if it is your major priority, a contributing factor to your happiness/success and if your means of getting them is legal and pure.
Knowing the limit to luxury seeking is what defines vanity and contentment. After all, what you consider to be a normal commodity that you can afford, is what another person will adore as a luxury.
